Valerie Barker handles a wide range of intellectual property matters for a diverse set of clients, focused primarily on patent litigation and patent prosecution. Valerie regularly handles complex disputes involving concurrent proceedings in federal courts, the International Trade Commission (ITC), and proceedings before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and she has represented clients on high-stakes patent infringement matters, including arguments at Markman, summary judgment, and pretrial hearings.
Valerie has litigated patent infringement disputes involving a broad range of technologies, including near field communication, wireless communications technologies, video and data communications technology, lighting devices, computer and server hardware and software, e-commerce, radio communications hardware, and medical devices. As a registered patent attorney, she has experience prosecuting patent applications for a variety of high-technology clients.
Prior to law school, Valerie worked for seven years as an engineer at Lockheed Martin and Boeing. Her technical background in aerospace and mechanical engineering includes experience in flight testing, stability and control, flight simulation database development, wind tunnel testing, and lean manufacturing.
Outside of her work in intellectual property, Valerie regularly volunteers for American Gateways, representing pro bono clients in Immigration Court proceedings.
