Marton Ribera Schumann & Chang LLP is a law firm specializing in intellectual property litigation and counseling. We are growing and looking for a self-motivated individual with 4+ years of experience in patent litigation, counseling, and/or prosecution. You will work with a variety of technology areas, assisting with our current load of district court and PTAB litigation, pre-litigation matters, technology licensing, and patent prosecution. You will also have the opportunity to pursue strategic growth opportunities with the support of the firm. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial, takes ownership of projects, enjoys having a varied practice, and is seeking challenging substantive projects in a more flexible environment than traditional large law firms. Experience & Skills

  • 4+ years of experience working on intellectual property (in particular patent) matters at a large or mid-size law firm

  • J.D. from a top-tier law school with excellent credentials

  • Member of the California bar

  • Patent prosecution experience and PTO registration is preferred, but not required

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities, judgment, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage and drive matters to resolution autonomously, while working collaboratively on larger projects

  • Ability to manage complex workloads, multiple client demands, and shifting priorities

  • Interest in developing your own client base and growing the firm's practice

  • A self-starter that enjoys being a part of a small collaborative team that has a passion for achieving results for clients and growing a small firm.

Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Day-to-day management of litigation and pre-litigation patent matters, including execution of tasks, such as written discovery, drafting briefs, taking depositions, developing claim construction arguments, and working with technical experts.

  • (For those with prosecution experience): Responsibility for managing docket of patent applications for new start-up technologies, including preparation and prosecution of applications for US and PCT filings.

  • Collaborate with other attorneys to develop case and business development strategies

  • The ideal candidate is one looking to contribute as a core member of a small team providing top-tier client services and building a legal practice.
